Inner City Stakeholder Session

Inner City Stakeholder Session

Last week Thursday JPOMA, The JICP, GPMA and FIRM presented to the Executive Mayor Mpho Phalatse and her newly appointed MMCs. This is part of the City’s commitment to work in partnership with the private sector.

The presentations were well received and the presentation by JPOMA sparked a nearly 90 minute debate and discussion. Angela Rivers, JPOMA General Manager was satisfied that JPOMA delivered their message in a firm and honest way.

Outcomes of the session:

MMC Finance Cllr Julie Suddaby, has requested a meeting with inner city developers, organised through JPOMA, at her offices. She specifically wants to talk about tariffs, tariff descriptions and a way to work together in the future. This is a huge step in the right direction.

MMC Development Planning Cllr Belinda Echeozonjoku has asked for a couple of months to get her house in order and then we will set up a meeting to discuss ways to work together with regard to building plan approvals, penalties and inner city schools.

MMC Environment and Infrastructure Service Delivery Cllr Michael Sun showed a willingness to work with JPOMA, especially on recycling and service delivery. Cllr Sun worked with JPOMA when he was the MMC of Public Safety. JPOMA looks forward to seeing some significant changes in Joburg Water and Pikitup.
