Development Planning rocked by burglaries and vandalism of computers days apart

MMC Cllr Belinda Echeozonjoku, has expressed her deep shock and disappointment at the burglaries that have occurred at Development Planning offices.

City’s online building application system limited to technical professionals

The MMC for Development Planning, Cllr Belinda Echeozonjoku, urges accredited architectural professionals to continue to register on the City’s building plan application online platform, as the Department migrates to a digital platform.
The Construction Permit Management System (CPMS), which is currently being piloted, is the City of Joburg’s latest digital solution, specifically designed to optimise its construction permitting processes. It seeks to enhance the operational efficiency and good governance of Development Planning, and aligns with Joburg’s Smart City programme.

The Water Research Commission is conducting a 2 year study titled: “Supporting the development of standards for water use efficiency and water safety in buildings”
The Project aims are:
1) To identify gaps in the current legislation governing water use efficiency, water supply and water safety in various building types,
2) To conduct an assessment of current water use efficiency, water supply and water safety practices in various building types throughout South Africa,
3) To generate data sets, benchmarks, and guidelines that will lead to subsequent development of national standards for water use efficiency, water supply and water safety in buildings.
Please can you assist the project team to complete item 2 by providing information on your water supply network by filling in the Google Form HERE. The final submission date is 31st January 2022.
WRC thank you for your participation in this project and will provide a summary of results to all responders once the project is completed.

At the end of 2021, the Department of Development Planning issued a notice regarding the temporary halt on the issuance of Certificates of Occupation and Temporary Occupation due to concerns of irregular issuances.
Stakeholder Letter – Certificates of Occupation
On 29 December 2021, the MMC for Development Planning, Cllr Belinda Echeozonjoku, lifted the temporary halt on the issuance of certificates of occupancy (CoO) and temporary occupation, with effect from Monday, 3 January 2022, as she was satisfied with the corrective measures put in place by the department, which will prevent fraudulent CoOs from being issued.
